Taco Seasoning

June 6, 2012

Here at Feasting Freds we’re not so into anything prepackaged, including our seasoning mixes, so today we’re sharing our preferred recipe for seasoning tacos be they meat or lentil. It seems silly to us to buy pre-made taco seasoning that probably contains preservatives and other scary stuff for three times the prices of mixing your own from spices you probably already have on your spice rack. We tend to mix this fresh each time we make tacos, but if you find that too much of a hassle double or triple the recipe and store the extra for next time, we promise it will keep just fine without chemicals or preservatives. And in case you’re at a loss for just how to use this seasoning, stay tuned for our lentil taco recipe coming out later this week…

Taco Seasoning

This recipe yields enough to season 1 cup of dried brown lentils or a pound of ground beef. Since there’s no garlic or onion powder in here, we recommend adding minced garlic and onion to your meat or lentils as you cook them.

1 Tbs. chili powder

2 tsp. ground cumin

1/2 tsp. kosher salt

1 tsp. smoked paprika

½  teaspoon ground coriander

¼  teaspoon cayenne pepper

1/2 tsp dried oregano

Mix all your spices together, then season away!
