Vices: Blueberry Mimosa

This post kicks off our new section: Vices! These posts will feature and celebrate vices a plenty, starting with today’s cocktail – the blueberry mimosa. It’s blueberry season here and this cocktail celebrates them in all their glory. It’s the perfect after work drink, post hot sweaty walk. Refreshing, sparkly, clean and bright, it pairs well with a lot; we’ve served this cocktail from morning (at a pancake brunch) to night (with flourless chocolate cake).

We like to serve this with a little spoon or appetizer fork, to save our guests the trouble of having to slurp out the crushed berries. Unless we’re serving it to people we want to watch awkwardly attempt to gracefully slurp mashed blueberries while sipping at their drink…

Blueberry Mimosa

1 cup fresh blueberries

1 bottle champagne or sparkling wine


Muddle 3/4 of your blueberries and a pinch of sugar until you’ve broken them all and a bit of juice collects at the bottom of your bowl. If desired, sugar the rims of your glasses.  Add a large spoonful of crushed berries to each glass or flute and pour champagne or sparkling wine onto them. Add a few whole berries to each glass and serve.

We said this was delicious, not hard!
